Bet on the EURO 2012 winner odds at Allpro. European football powers are preparing for the qualifying run that leads up to the UEFA European Football Championships in 2012. The 2012 UEFA Euro tournament will be hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine, marking the third time in the tournaments history this has happened following Belgium/Netherlands in 2000 and Austria/Switzerland in 2008.
The qualifying round of the tournament kicked off on 11 August 2010 with Estonia defeating the Faroe Islands 2-1, but the tournament will get underway in earnest on 3 September 2010 when all 51 entrants in the qualifying round begin pool play to determine who will reach the final tournament which will be held from 8 June - 1 July 2012. The 51 nations are separated into nine groups with six groups of six teams and three groups of five teams. The winners of each group plus the runner up with the best record against their group will earn automatic berths into the final tournament next year.
All of Europe's football powers including England, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, France, and Germany will be involved and each nation faces a different task in pool play to advance to the final tournament field of 16. Among the more interesting groups for the qualifying round is Group B which lacks a dominant side and could see any number of teams go through. Group B includes Russia, Republic of Ireland, Slovakia, FYR Macedonia, Armenia, and Andorra. The toughest group could be Group E where 2010 World Cup runners-up Netherlands must get through Sweden, Finland, and Hungary to advance.
Several national teams will be under intense pressure to not only make it to the final tournament in Poland/Ukraine, but also to win it all. Spain are the reigning champions, not only of Europe but of the world having won Euro 2008 over Germany and the 2010 World Cup against Netherlands. English fans will be irate if their team does not perform well as England missed out on Euro 2008 all together. France will also be looking to reclaim their image as a football power after a disgraceful display on and off the pitch at the 2010 World Cup.
